Cryssie is by far the most shy, quietest person ever. She only speaks when she needs to, and usually keeps to herself a lot and is just waiting for the time when she can burst out of her shell. Though with the history she has, that may take a while to happen. Along with her shyness, she is very sweet and soft spoken. Most people don’t associate with her, because she refuses a lot of offers to hang out with them. Cryssie is not one to go out and party or go out period. She always finds herself going from home to school and back. On some occasions she can be found in the library. She’s also very curious and smart. She has a very high IQ when it comes to being book smart, not too street smart, though. You’ll always find her with her head buried in a book.
Along with the previous personality traits, Cryssie can be very brave. She has learned to conquer most of her fears, and will stand up for herself if absolutely necessary. This is mostly due to her upraising. She isn’t much of a fighter, but she is a fast learner, so she can defend herself mentally and physically. Due to her books smarts, she lacks the observation of people taking interests in her. She is pretty much oblivious to guy that think she’s pretty, because she’s never been with anyone in her life in the intimate way.
Crystina’s life wasn’t exactly rainbows and butterflies growing up. She was born February 5th, 1998, in Compton, CA to Rachel and Eli Bates, with two older twin brothers, Brian and Erik. Everything in her family was great. They would have movie nights as well as games nights. Cryssie loved everything about her family. Well at least the first ten years of her life were great. She went to a nice school made friends easily and always loved coming home to see her mom and dad’s faces along with her brothers’. She and her mother were pretty close to each other. Cryssie would spend time after school helping in the kitchen, while her mom helped her with her homework, while the twins ran around outside with their friends. Soon after her dad would come home and take over cooking. To her their lives were perfect.
A few months after Crystina’s tenth birthday, there was a terrible car accident involving her dad and a drunk driver. At the time Cryssie couldn’t understand what, how and why it had happened, but her mother, as well as herself and her siblings, were devastated by this. Cryssie took it especially hard now that her family wasn’t whole anymore. Her mother took up drinking and her brothers were off in their own worlds, so Cryssie was left to raise herself. About six months later her mother found a man that could keep a roof over their heads, since she was no longer working and Crystina wasn’t old enough to work. Only problem was this man didn’t help her mother off the alcohol, being as he was an alcoholic as well.
The nights grew longer and longer as the years went by. And as time passed Cryssie became more and more self-sufficient. She depended on herself to get things done. She also became much more secluded and quiet. However, there were few times that she’d speak up to her mother. This agitated her mother’s husband. He always told Rachel to take a stand and discipline Cryssie, but she told him she could never hit her daughter. One night Cryssie back talked her mother and without a second thought he raised his hand a hit her. From that point on, for four years, if there was something he didn’t like, or if Cryssie stepped out of line, he would hit her, on few occasions leaving bruises. Her mother never once chimed in about this or tried to stop him.
This caused Cryssie to pull away from the world even more. Hiding in her room for hours on end, only coming out when he wasn’t home or even when he passed out. She was afraid of everything. She became jumpy and paranoid. Once she started high school she was an outcast, never speaking to anyone or going out. She’d go from home to school and back. There was no reason for her to do much else. During the beginning of her junior year, her step dad had started to drink more after losing his job. Every little detail of wrong angered him and he’d take it out on her mother and her. Cryssie had had enough of it. She pleaded for her mom to leave him, tried to persuade her that things would be better with just the four of them, but her mother refused.
So Cryssie turned to her brothers who were almost of age and working decent enough jobs. She told them what had been happening and at first they didn’t believe her. It took for Cryssie to step out of line with her brothers present to prove to them that he was indeed abusing her. After that incident they chose to find a place away from their mom and her husband. Brian had a friend in Mount Vernon, CA that was willing to let them stay with her for a while. This was good, until Erik and Cryssie found out that the two had been dating and broke up. Brian’s friend was nice enough to allow the family to let them stay with a few conditions of course. Cryssie was soon enrolled into the local high school along with her brothers. Unlike her the twins she didn’t make friends fast, well not at all. She keeps to herself and watches as the world lives amazing lives around her.
